A Word from Annika Lets play and learn our colours! At Jumbunna Mobile, Bonalbo Preschool we are passionate about learning through play, we respect children’s voices and believe they are an integral part of the program (see our Jumbunna Philosophy)! We also believe that children learn best when motivated by their own interests! The children have been interested in colours and fascinated by their emerging writing skills. We seized this opportunity to create an a fun colour scavenger hunt. The result was an experience where the children could practice their colour skills, while also developing partnerships, problem solving skills, writing skills and having a whole lot of fun! On your marks, get set, go! The children worked in pairs to find the hidden red, blue, yellow, and green objects all over the preschool. They called out the colours as they found them and quickly filled their baskets. When they were happy with their findings, the children brough their baskets back to the table. They used their colour checklists to mark off the colours of the objects they had found. We knew we were on to a great experience when the children revisited the game over and over again. Here the three girls worked as a team to find, collect and tick off the checklist! We are excited to see where the children’s play takes us next!!! Links to the Early Years Learning Framework: Outcome 4.1 Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity. Outcome 5.4 Children begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work. This experience reflects Jumbunna’s Philosophy: ‘We respect children’s voices and believe they are an integral part of the program. Our practices and program are guided by their ideas and interests; and we support their learning and development through play and intentional teaching’.
