A word from Annika… Hi, my name is Annika. I am the teacher and co-ordinator of Jumbunna Mobile Bonalbo Preschool. Bonalbo is a small community in size but not in opportunities, and I take full advantages of these opportunities in planning for our children. Because I believe (as the old saying goes) ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. Our children venture out on lots of excursions into the community. We visit the local disability training centre for morning tea, read stories with the residents of the local nursing home, have picnics in the numerous parks, buy groceries from the local shops for cooking experiences, visit the local central school and perform our many talents at community events. We also invite the community into our preschool by providing a space for family support services to meet with families, running a volunteer based playgroup and by holding social events for families and the community. We also have regular visits from a speech therapist, dental therapist and have access to the wonderful network of professionals at Jumbunna. I believe that this model of inclusiveness will support our children to grow as competent, capable and resilient learners! “Alone we are smart. Together we are brilliant.” Steven Anderson, Educator
